![]() ![]() During the second Fronde, Tremoilles joined the army of the Great Conde in 1651. Tremoille was a Protestant who had joined the army of his uncle, the Dutch Stadtholder Frederick Henry in 1638. In 1653 Tavannes refused to share an army command with Henri-Charles de Tremoille, count of Thouars and Prince of Tarente and Conde's cousin. He joined the army of Louis II, the Great Conde and became in 1651 Lieutenant-general des Armees du Roi. In 1638 he had become bailiff of Dijon as successor to his father and in 1645 marechal des Camps et Armees du Roi. Tavannes was one of the French nobles who participated in that Fronde. In this work, published 8 years after his death, Jacques de Saulx, Count of Tavannes gives an account of his experiences during the "Troubles", the second Fronde, the Fronde des Nobles that enrolled between 16, the armed opposition of the French nobility against the Court and especially against Cardinal Mazarin, the Chief Minister of France.
